Kooka moved out of KDE Graphics
July 13, 2007
Kooka was dropped from the kdegraphics module for KDE 4. The reason for this is the lack of active development and maintenance for long time.
However, there have been discussions around that, for example around this dot.kde.org story.

It was somebody speaking up interested in carrying on Kooka development. If you are a friend of Kooka, cross fingers, might be that development continues.

If you are willing to help, please drop a note! The libkscan remains in the kdegraphics module. That means that scanning will be available for KDE 4 for these applications that use the libkscan.

Check out how that works in the API documentation for the KScanDialog class on api.kde.org. The KScanDialog is part of the KIO subsection of the libs.

New Kooka Version: 0.44
May 4, 2004
Kooka version 0.44 is a slightly enhanced standalone version of the Kooka that came with the latest KDE 3.2.1.
It uses Ocrad as default ocr engine, because the results of ocrad are very good (given a good scan ;) and it supports layout detection. Kooka 0.44 provides a user interface including layout detection selection for ocrad.

You can downlaod kooka-0.44.tar.bz2 from here via FTP.

New Kooka Version: 0.41a
Nov 1, 2003
The new Kooka version 0.41a is mainly a bugfix release for version 0.41. It fixes a bug that prevented Kooka to work with the recently released version 0.5 of Ocrad. Moreover it fixes a serious bug in the thumbnail list handling.

Download kooka-0.41a.tar.bz2 version from here via FTP. Kooka Version 0.41 implemented support with ocrad first, this was done and tested with ocrad version 0.4. Short before Kooka 0.41 was released, ocrad came up in version 0.5. There were minor changes in the ORF file export which broke Kooka's parser. This is fixed in Kooka 0.41a.

Another bug that was fixed caused crashes in the thumbview module. When changing very fast between different directories in the gallery, the job list management in the thumbview module crashed.

  • in screen resolution
  • printing in real size (calculated from the scan resolution and the printer resolution)
  • custom print size
  • to fit exactly on a page.
Large images are printed on multiple papers with usefull cut edges.

Bugfixes went especially into tiff image handling and scan source selection.
